With no place left to go, Amato and Cassie wander a bit before Amato turned to her, “Cass, things are gonna get rough. I only got one card to play before it’s over for me, you should go.” he said as snowflakes began to gently fall from the sky. It was freezing and there was a storm on the way. As the wind blew, Cassie brushed her hair from her face and said, “That’s the problem with you cops, there’s no fedelta.”
“What?” he asked confused.
“Loyalty, fidelity” she explained, “My father taught us that it trumped everything, even your own life.”
“Yeah, and see where that got him?” It was low but it had to be said, “This isn’t a game anymore, both the police and the FBI are after us. We’re gonna need more than loyalty to get through this. We need a crew and I think I know where I can get one.”
“I’m down, you know that,” she answered without hesitation. This wasn’t exactly what he wanted to hear but he had no other plans. So he said, “Alright, we’re going to Whitfield Street.”
“That’s where the bums hang out, what’s over there?”
“Not what, but who,” Amato answered as he began walking again.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at a bridge and there, Amato stopped dead in his tracks. Looking around him, he scanned the area for anything out of place. Uncomfortable, Cassie looked over her shoulder and was frightened to see two eyes peeping out from the bushes just a few feet from them. Grabbing Amato’s arm, she leapt behind him, making him laugh, “See, you found it!”
